Humour has always been a challenging subject to communicate effectively, as people often have preconceived notions of what is funny. To overcome this, the design team took a different approach by creating a serious and solemn business tone, allowing humour to work in unexpected times and places. The exhibition's communication materials, such as posters, cleverly incorporated the faces of the world's most successful businessmen, mocking and playing around with their images from leading business magazine covers.
The exhibition design drew inspiration from big industrial corporate factories, utilizing graphic elements and realistic simulations to create an immersive experience. The use of physical effects, including sound, wind, and vibration, added an extra layer of engagement. Additionally, secret facilities were strategically placed throughout the exhibition to surprise and delight the audience.
The realization of the exhibition involved the use of cross-platform technologies, ranging from analog to digital. From the moment visitors entered the exhibition, they were greeted with an immersive elevator simulation that utilized visual, sound, wind, and motion effects, creating the sensation of descending deep into the basement. Other interactive elements, such as a laser room that indulged visitors' spy fantasies, added to the overall experience. The exhibition also featured a photo booth where visitors could personalize their own posters and add a touch of humor with funny graphics.
The "Humour Business" exhibition covered an area of 550 square meters and ran from July 15 to October 2, 2016. It captivated audiences of all ages, including those who were not the main target audience of the exhibition. The unexpected user experience and comprehensible content made it a topic of conversation and left a significant impact on visitors.
The "Humour Business" exhibition was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2018 in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contribute to quality of life improvements, and make the world a better place.
